The Rock Concerto is a new concert experience that brings the worlds of classical and rock audiences together!
World-class violin soloist Alexander Markov composed “Rock Concerto” in collaboration with James V. Remington and Neal Coomer, lead vocalist who wrote vocal melodies and lyrics. The concept and vision is to bridge a gap between classical and rock audiences closer together and to create a fresh and new concert experience for the whole family.
Rock Concerto is a crossover epic which combines both classical and rock genres. It features the new, six-string electric violin (specially designed by James Remington and is patented as the only one-of--a-kind in the world) along with the rock group of some of the most acclaimed musicians in the rock music today. The rock band is accompanied by an orchestra and a choir.
Although there were many rock groups in the past who incorporated orchestral sounds into their music it has never been arranged and developed before in such a sophisticated way as Rock Concerto and together with the unique sound of the new electric violin, powerful rock group and rich harmonies of the chorus and orchestra a very original composition and project has been created.
The Concerto has a dark and gothic mood behind it with some colorful sounds and very contrasting dynamics. Provocative rhythms and grooves create a sensual, mysterious and hypnotic atmosphere while the new electric violin is soloing on top of that with its “cosmic” sounds from the sensual soft to the monstrous loud achieving a sound even more powerful than a rock guitar. There are songs incorporated in” Rock Concerto” performed by a lead singer of the band which provides an important balance to the instrumental sections of the Concerto. Mr. Remington's ultra-modern design of the new violin which is covered with a 24-karat gold as if it came directly from the ancient Egyptian days creates a very meaningful and powerful appearance of the instrument from the concert stage. In addition, Alexander Markov uses occasionally during his solo part a special electric bow which glows in the dark to create a strong visual and "futuristic" impression.
Occasional jam sections of the rock group give the musicians an opportunity to improvise and demonstrate their technique and virtuosity. There’s also an intriguing and provocative interaction between classical musicians performing on their acoustic instruments and powerful rock group performing on the electric instruments. Especially since the rock band are world-class rock musicians: Neal Coomer – vocals; Ivan Bodley- bass and synth; Gregg Gerson – drums and guitar, these musicians add their personal style and character and help bring “Rock Concerto” to life. |
